Enter the PAPERBACK!

Some people say there’s nothing like the smell of new books to stir a reader’s soul. To those people I say… try being the one who wrote the book!

The Razvak Hunter is now officially in Paperback format and I’ve already gotten my first group at home. I feel like I’m going to spend the entire day just staring at them (maybe with some drool involved).

Doesn’t it look awesome? I love the colors and the way the cover came up and I hope you guys will like it too. Let me know your opinions below and don’t forget to order your own copy at:

Release Day!

It’s here! It’s here!

Happy release day, everybody! The Razvak Hunter is now officially out and live for purchase.

I cannot tell you how relieved and excited I am, and God knows I’ve opened the book page ten thousand times today just to take a look at it (*sniff* So beautiful! *sniff*)

This has been a great journey and I’m happy to see it come to completion. Now onto the next one and to hope you will all give this my humble book a try!

Glossary/Word of the Day: Raia

glossaruHey, there!

Another one of our glossary posts, going live when we are exactly 19 days away from the release (February 29th!) of The Razvak Hunter.

For today’s issue we are going to take on a Word of the Day, one of the several examples of Elven language that appear in the book, and one that comes around quite often. You curious already?

Let’s get to it then!

raiaToday’s word is “raia,” the elven designation for The Sun.

Unlike the human race, elves in Vallenthar give a common and an individual name to all natural objects, from rocks to trees to stars… and the sun is not different.

While the common word for sun (aranth) is used to refer to the sun as a complement and an object within a whole or external topic, the raia form is used to attribute a specific, individual persona to the sun. It is used when recognizing the star’s divinity, influence or supremacy; when paying tribute or praise to it, and when directing words to it as if it were an actual being or person.

The “raia” form is a term of respect and worship, greatly used with spiritual and religious connotations.

Glossary/Word of the Day: Vallenthar

So, following on with our pre-release schedule (February 29, kids, remember!) today’s Glossary day. I’ve been approached about doing a Glossary several times and since I don’t think adding it to the book is a smart idea, we are going to have a mini web-encyclopedia to fix this issue. I’ll probably create a proper wikia further along the line to make sure all the info is nice and tidy, but for now, you advance readers get the treat!

For today’s issue of our Glossary/Word of the Day  section we are going to be discussing a little bit about the world in which the Razvak Series develops: Vallenthar.

Vallenthar is the ancestral home that houses all creatures created under the grace of the First God Evandraëll and his consort Altarya, Goddess of Earth and Souls. The name Vallenthar literally means “World.” The legends about the land are many, and the history of it is old as time itself.

The Book of Beginnings talks about Vallenthar being created from the Empty Mist, when the first starlight pierced the darkness and divided it, giving birth to the First God Evandraëll. During his birth, the god bled the blood of the universe and this created a new world that was empty of all living things. A blank canvas for the god to paint in. For many millennia, Evandraëll dabbled and toyed with the land he’d made, learning about the concepts of life and death. He created creatures and races of the earth to populate it. Some of them of light. Some of them of shadows.

easiaFor most of its history, Vallenthar was torn by war as the races within it battled for the right to occupy the territories. Light Creatures would join together in one front, Dark Ones in the other. As blood was shed, and the two armies ravaged each other, the land cried for help to its father God.

Evandraëll chose an elf named Diogeress and gave him the mission to bring peace to Vallenthar. The elf took command over his people and joined the war of the races. With his army, he drove the Dark Ones north, cleansing the southern territories, and established an impenetrable frontier along the mountain range that divided the land into two provinces: Easia and Myrasia.   myrasia

Easia is where the dark creatures roam. Those with black in their hearts and who feed from the darkest of emotions. Those who thrive in pain and evil.

Myrasia houses the beings of lighter hearts, fragile beauty and soft demeanor. Those who bask in the blessings of nature and live as one, under the holy trees, beneath the prideful mountains, astride the luscious winds.

As long as they remain separate, divided by the barrier of the Border Mountains, there shall be peace.

Teaser Monday 1

stationary 3

Hi, hi!

So… February! I can’t believe it’s here already. Knowing we are entering release month is both amazing and nerve-wracking. I have a couple of things lined up but the schedule of it all is pretty much nightmarish.

But anyways, you guys don’t want to know about that. Instead, let me tell you what’s going to happen over the next month, ok?

Well, leading to the release date of February 29 (mark your calendars, people!) I’m going to be releasing some weekly content about the book and the world in which the book develops: Vallenthar.

Here’s how it looks:

Monday: Teaser Day (We are going to have three more teasers before the book is live, the one today being the first in the line up. Each teaser contains a piece of the book so gather them up!)

Wednesday: Glossary/Word of the Day (Like any self-respecting fantasy world, Vallenthar has its own geography and languages. For the rest of February we are going to be learning some more about that, exploring the map of Vallenthar and learning the locations and terminology that you are going to be seeing in the book once is out. This glossary as a whole will be available as a single illustrated piece in my website after the release day, so if you missed a post, you know where to go!)

Friday: Meet and Greet  (Every Friday night I’ll be presenting one of the main character of my series, in ascending order of importance. I’ll tell you a little bit about them, their background and why you are going to want to know more about them. Look forward to it!)

The rest of my posting schedule, including the Straight from… posts and all other content I blog about is going to remain the same, so I’m not slacking off in that sense. But people, it’s release month, release month! Precursory measures must be taken!

Oh, gosh, so busy, so busy!

Enjoy your teaser and see you on Wednesday. 😉

Official Website launch!

Hi, there!

Ok, so here it is! I’ve been working on it for a while and now it’s finally a reality:

Arel B. Grant’s Official Author Website

I put a lot of effort into this and those of you who visit it will find some interesting things that have not been available in this blog as of yet. You will also get some more information about my prequel novella, Heroes of Vallenthar, which we discussed earlier last week. This novella will be available for FREE to all the readers that sign up for the monthly newsletter. Click the link to find out more!

The website also has an exclusive Razvak Series section. This is going to be filling up as more content comes up and more books are released, so you’ll have to check back frequently. To commemorate this auspicious occasion of ours, I’ll leave you with a little treat: the map that is going to be included in the The Razvak Hunter ebook, featuring the land of Vallenthar and the region in which books 0.5, 1 and 2 occur: Myrasia.

Happy Monday!

Straight from… #1 and some more!

heroes title

Hi, everybody!

I’ve been rather active this week! Finally getting the gist of this blogging thing (insert smug smile) and keeping up to speed. I have some exciting news to discuss as well as a new post series to introduce, so let’s cut the chitchat.

News first!

Heroes of Vallenthar, the Razvak Series prequel novella is officially done! At 40.5k words, it ended up being much larger than what I’d originally anticipated but I’m also quite happy with it. I think it’s a very nice prequel and I hope it’s going to be enjoyed by all readers of the series. Now we enter into the (dreaded) editing threshold, and in the meantime I’m warming gears and oiling joints to get on with the next big project: The Razvak Series book 2, Elven Princess.

Next week, with the launch of the website, more information will be available about how to get the novella Heroes of Vallenthar for FREE on its release day, March 30. Stay tuned!

Now, for the next bit in our schedule…

I’ve realized that I spend a fair amount of time engaged in writing forums and discussions about literature. All those wonderful pieces of my considerable expertise (*smug, smug*) are lost on the rest of my avid blog readership (of about 2 people). It’s time to remedy this sad situation!

So in the spirit of the three Rs, Reuse, Recycle, Reduce (that’s right I’m lazy AND environmentally conscious), I’ve decided to bring some of my outside contributions here for everyone to enjoy. To begin this series I’m borrowing a question by a user on reddit (whose name we won’t mention). So here we go…

Straight from… Reddit:

When did you know you wanted to be a writer?

Answer: When I finished reading Harry Potter 6 (10 years old) and realized I didn’t want to wait for #7 to come out …. Who needs Rowling! I’ll finish this my way! … and all that

The Razvak Hunter: Cover and Blurb Reveal

Front (kindle size)  Back (kindle size) (Custom)

Aelwyd has worked hard to become strong. As the Fairest One of Vallenthar, her power is formidable. Years of battle honed her into a fearsome warrior who never falters in front of an enemy. However, there are shadows that when they come, they can swallow you whole. After a hundred years of praying against it, the minute she walks into the chilling scene of death in front of her, she knows her personal nightmare is back.

He nearly destroyed her once, but she isn’t a victim anymore. This time, she will stop him, or she will die trying.

Dalbran knows nothing of friends, joy, or mischief. The orphaned ward of a ruthless warrior woman, she’s never showed him love or affection. Instead she fills his days with learning the art of battle, savage teachings of how to survive in their harsh world. Days are filled with pain and exhaustion, but nighttime used to be his own. Even that is now lost, though, for something lurks in the shadows of sleep, clawing at him the moment his eyes close. He tells himself it’s okay, that he can handle it. However daunting the voices may be, however cold the hand that chokes him in the darkness, as long as it stays within the nightmare, everything will be all right.

As long as it stays within the nightmare…

Hello, hello!

As promised earlier this week, today is the cover and blurb launch for my first novel, The Razvak Hunter.

I am particularly fond of this cover and I must say it has come a long way from my first original design. Those of you who have been following my blog might have noticed the progressive changes the teaser format has gone through. Yes, the cover has suffered them as well. I guess my designer’s soul was never quite happy with the results every time, so I just kept changing it.

This is also the reason why I’m finally releasing it here. Publication is a great deterrent so if I ever fall out of love with it in the future (fingers crossed I won’t), the temptation to change it won’t be bigger than me.

Back cover is also ready, although I won’t be releasing a paperback in quite a while. It’s an interesting endeavor when you are trying to create the cover for YOUR book. I’ve done several for other authors, but for some reason, yours is always the hardest. However, if you keep in mind the core requisites for any cover, you will be alright. Let’s remember them:

  1. Does it look professional?
  2. Does it convey your genre?
  3. Is it eye-catching enough to get your reader’s attentions among the gazillion other covers that are available online?

Remember that the cover will pretty much be the base of your future branding, so it IS important (for more about that, check my Cover Design series here).

But back to our main theme: The Razvak Hunter is officially covered! Yay!

New Year, New Teaser!

stationary 3

It’s been a while since I did a Progress Report.

The holidays really hit my blogging career, but we are still on track! The manuscript is going through his last round of editings and cover and blurb are already up (so prettyyyyyy!!!!) I’ll probably be releasing them by the end of this week.

Pre-Order for The Razvak Hunter will be available soon so make sure to keep an eye out, and next monday will be the launching of the Arel B. Grant Official Author Page (sounds professional and everything!) So excited!

For now, another teaser for you, dear readers of mine (however few you may be). The third in our group of ten. Doesn’t it look lovely?

See you later, and keep reading everybody!
